Program Evaluation Approach

When reviewing this program, I will be reviewing student testimonies, change in global communities past and present and conducing interviews to see those teaches and students involved. I will also look at how the college is further developing future projects for next year.

I want to review how the program can be improved and where exactly those improvements need to be in. I will be reviewing the following data from these questions:

I wanted to review the perspective of the project deployed overall successful for the college.

Can the project employ more countries in need?

Are students employed as a result of this project?

Can more students attend this initiative?

Can more sponsored dollars be delegated to the cause?

What do the countries think of the project that was done?

I will not only look at outcome data, but how does the college benefit from this assistance as a brand. I also want to ask students if they were able to gain employment because of the experience they have obtained.

I will evaluate qualitative approaches with interviews, data analysis of those that have applied for the program and the successful outcome of the program since it started.

Program Theory

Program Goals

-Students will receive skills that will enable their success in a global/international outlet

-Obtain a learning environment that is unique and supported by seasoned professionals and instructors

-Discover employability skills by executing responsibilities in professional relationships in a multicultural community

-Sustain an understanding of how to contribute to communities in need of resources and change.

-Build a comprehension of cultural demographics through community contribution

.

Program Theory of Action

The globalization program is designed to assist students to obtain an international lens of sustainability, community identities and personal growth mindset. While students are overseas, they are completing an assignment based on their educational experience and will receive recognition for their global experience. Global knowledge is a suitable attribute to any resume today that provides cross culture understanding of other nations.

Students must apply to the program by having a reference by a teacher and a statement of intent. Once the information is reviewed, an interview will take place by reviewing skills and communication skills. Strength of experience is also an asset.  There are 52 students and 14 staff that participate every year. The social justice goals are achieved through ecosystem analysis, school building and teaching, coffee harvesting. These amazing excursions can occur in Kenya, India, Brazil and Jamaica during the spring time. The duration of the program is 9 days in length and must commit to the daily duties along with completing an assignment and completing any assignments they missed in their program during their absence.

An evaluation of the program is done by the student participants and the teacher staff involved. Program evaluation is key to determine if the program was success for the communities and the college. Progress is noted if the destined goals were completed in a timely manner financially and suitable for the outcomes forecasted.

Program Theory of Change

The results of the program can be identified by considering the following outcome statements:

  • If there is a good outcome with the initiative, what is the likelihood for future activities in the future.
  • Can students pay for the excursion and more money goes to the community.
  • What other positive outcomes have they discovered for the college as a whole
  • What changes are in the works now?

Step 1

The expectations for Module #1 Program Evaluation Design are:

Step #1. Select and describe program context:

Identify a social program that you would like to evaluate. Describe the focus of the program, size of staff, goals, resources, community demographics, and other details important to conducting a program evaluation.

I will be evaluating the Global Learning Initiatives at the college I work at. The college offers a social context of having students deployed to different countries in the world to implement community change such as ecotourism, farming assistance or building schools. The goals of the program are to have students establish a global perspective of assisting those in need with their Canadian educational skill sets and provide community building community wealth. I would like to evaluate the staff of the following:

-how do they choose the country in need

-how do they recruit the students to go to the designated locations

-what criteria determines a successful candidate?

Step 2

Purpose for Evaluation

The GCELE program has been successful for many years and I wanted to evaluate how success it is during this time. I would like to complete a SWOT analysis which includes: strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. I would like to review how the program can expand and generate other global outreach opportunities.

I would like to know if more students should be applying? Do students know about the initiate? What are students learning that can assist them with career development? What are

Evaluation Questions

Module 1 provided some insight as an evaluation process based on as presented by MySPH, P. (2012, December 11):

Process Evaluation

Impact Evaluation

Outcome Evaluation

Process Evaluation Questions:

I chose to review the questions looking through a basic lens of understanding of the project.

How many staff members are currently working in this initiative?

When does the advertising take place?

What is the financial budget used? Who is funding the project?

How does the college choose the country to attend?

Do the countries apply to the college?

What is the interview process entail?

What does the application process assessed?

What training is required for the students?

What safety training takes place?

Impact Evaluation Questions:

I wanted to review questions that would like at the project in process and what data and results can be extracted.

What skills did the students learned that employers found beneficial?

How did the project do overall and the passing rate of the students after completing the project?

Was there a right a fit with leaders and students?

What was the feedback given by the students?

Outcome Evaluation Questions

I wanted to review the perspective of the project deployed overall succefful for the college.

Can the project employ more countries in need?

Are students employed as a result of this project?

Can more students attend this initiative?

Can more sponsored dollars be delegated to the cause?

How has the communities changed as a result of the help of the college?

What do the countries think of the project that was done?

Step 3

The reason why I chose the social program was to understand how the program can be more successful and expanded. I feel it is an asset for all students to have an opportunity to assist another country with mental and physical capacities to help nations in need. Students receive human capital that is unique and everlasting in their dreams and goals in their life.
